When you check in at Kurhotel Skodsborg you are also checking into a fantastic part of Danish history. This place has always been about taking a break and giving both body and mind an opportunity to re-energise. In 1852, King Frederik VII bought Skodsborg with his wife, Countess Danner, and until his death in 1863, they spent their long, relaxed summers here. Villa Rex was built in 1857 in order for the king to hold councils, meetings and banquets without leaving the scenic surroundings of Skodsborg. Villa Rex has been continuously refurbished with respect for its past and is currently used for parties and meetings.
The healthy life
The tradition of relaxation continued, when the physician, Carl Ottosen founded Skodsborg Sanatorium in 1898. He had studied health and physical therapy in the United States, and the sanatorium quickly became popular for his physiotherapeutic expertise and preventive care with treatments and a healthy lifestyle. Carl Ottosen worked with elements such as light, air, water, movement, rest and diet, and Skodsborg, located as it is in the midst of nature, proved to be the absolutely perfect place, in which to do it. To this day, Ottosen’s Nordic traditions form the basis for Kurhotel Skodsborg’s philosophy. The healthy life is the foundation for our many spa, training and dining options and our classic physiotherapy treatments.
