Kurhotel Skodsborg and Skodsborg Health Center merge

The activities of the two companies will continue unchanged in the new company, which will have Kurhotel Skodsborg as its continuing name. The merger is part of the implementation of Kurhotel Skodsborg’s strategy and continued work to simplify, optimize and digitize operations and administration.
In recent years, Kurhotel Skodsborg has been working on implementing a new business strategy to future-proof the iconic spa hotel. The strategy has included a changed market focus, a new sales strategy, strengthened efforts
for recruitment and retention of the right employees, as well as an extensive renovation of the hotel, e.g. more rooms, refurbishment of buildings and Spa, and the opening of Brasserie Carl in 2020.

First profit in 14 years

Despite significant challenges during the corona pandemic – which affected the spa hotel like the rest of the industry – the new strategy has managed to create positive results. This is how the group – Kurhotel Skodsborg and Skodsborg
Health Center – in 2022 a profit for the first time in 14 years.

“It was really a milestone for us to be in the black in 2022. And a huge pat on the back to all the employees and partners who have made a huge effort to make it happen. At the same time, we owe it to our guests
a big thank you for the fact that we could celebrate the spa hotel’s 125th birthday this year against this backdrop,” says CEO of Kurhotel Skodsborg and Skodsborg Health Center, Susanne Åberg. She continues:

“However, we must also recognize that the structure with Skodsborg Health Center as the parent company and Kurhotel Skodsborg as a subsidiary is no longer up to date and in practice leads to a lot of extra administrative work. At the same time
it makes the communication of our business and results unnecessarily complicated. Therefore, it is a natural extension of our strategy work – and focus on optimizing and digitizing the business – to merge the two companies into one.”

Continued focus on both spa hotel and commercial property rental

Technically, this is a so-called vertical merger, where the subsidiary Kurhotel Skodsborg is merged into the parent company Skodsborg Health Center. Both companies already have the same management and board of directors, so there is no
changes in relation to these. The activities of the two companies – hotel management and commercial real estate rental – will also continue unchanged.

“In practice, once the technicalities are sorted out, it will not affect our guests or tenants. But on a day-to-day basis, it will make everyday life easier and simpler in the administration, so we can use
our efforts even better for the benefit and enjoyment of guests and tenants,” says Susanne Åberg.

The merger is effective for accounting purposes as of January 1, 2023.
