Local lore has it that our founder, Carl Ottosen, rode his bike along the scenic “Strandvejen” more than 120 years. He was intrigued by the derelict buildings across from the beach in Skodsborg, enquired whether they were for sale, and the rest is history. Our history…
Dr Carl Ottosen had studied health and physiotherapy in the USA and opened Skodsborg Sanatorium on these premises on 4 May 1898.
The Eternal Principles for “The Healthy Life”
The sanatorium was recognized for its expertise within the area of physiotherapy and for its preventive approach to spa stays and healthy living.
Carl Ottosen’s principles for “The Healthy Life” were quite simple: you need light, air, water, nutrition, rest, and exercise – and plenty of it.
His expertise lives on at Kurhotel Skodsborg, where we have further developed his philosophies into new, efficient treatments, fulfilling the desires of modern man to take care of oneself, stay in great physical shape and get the most out of life.
“The Healthy Life” Wins International Accolades
We delighted that, as we celebrate our 120 years jubilee, these principles are not only still relevant in our modern, high-paced society but they also win international accolades from the most experienced spa and wellness experts in the world.
The prestigious Spa Guide 2018 published by TATLER MAGAZINE, known as “the world’s oldest and best magazine”, has just awarded us the title BEST FOR A ‘NATURAL HIGH’ and named us “One of the 7 best spas in the world in 2018.” And in March this year the equally prestigious Conde Nast Traveller Spa Guide 2018 named us BEST FOR A REBOOT.
Kurhotel Skodsborg is not only still going strong, our simple, Nordic philosophise are attracting people from all over the world who wish to benefit from them.
The next 120 years indeed look full of promise…
